Wrapping up another painting. This one is called "The Dare" It started out with being the my three kids who always are daring each other to eat chile. I added mimi in the corner last... I figured she is part of the family too. It feels really good to finish up these paintings that have been sitting for while unfinished. Now they are all lined up in my dining room waiting to be hung. This one is acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas. Pretty large too. I forget the dimensions but will add the them later after I've remeasured them again. Plus it's one-twenty in the morning and i really need to get bed. Here is a close up of Sarah my little muse. The pics are little fuzzy ... I'll try to take some better ones in the day time.

fig memories

Image
Yesterday I ate a fig. One of the fellows here at the university has a garden that just produced an enormous amount of fruit, cucumbers, heirloom tomates and all these great tastey veggies from his garden. I couldn't resist the figs. All it took was a bite and the scent of the fig to take me back to my childhood. Growing up in Redwood City we had a huge fig tree in our backyard. My dad always had something growing. He used to grow corn, sunflowers, cucumber and sandias. Of course there were always radishes and cilantro nearby too. I remember eating figs and being amazed at the inside full of seeds and this weird texture. I used to think that the I would grow a fig tree in my stomach because of the all of the seeds that were being implanted with each bite. Silly kid I was to think that. Its amazing to me how such a small thing like a fig can bring back so many wonderful childhood memories. I've been wanting to start a new blog with short stories of childhood recollections. Mayb...

Madrecita (2)

Image
New Madrecita painting. It's much larger and a little different than my first Madrecita painting which I did about a year ago. This one will be available through the Raza Galeria Posada of Sacramento Nov-Dec 05. I've been painting away every night after work trying to get everything done and putting final touches on painting. Total I think there will be about 24 in all. She radiates motherhood and peace as she cradles her bebe.

Fall is here!

Image
Catching up on the familia posts... The kids and I took a drive out the Half Moon Bay pumpkin festival, picked out our calabazas, had pumpkin pie and took a nice drive out the the beach. We also stopped a few flower nurseries just to take in the sights. Stopped at Mi Tierra Gallery and bought some sugar skills. We got lost in "Joes" corn maze... I started freaking out when we couldn't find our way out so we cheated and cut across the corn. Tim went to China here he is at the Great Wall. The kids and I are starting to think that maybe he is CIA or something... he's been traveling so much.
