I spent this past weekend in the garden, I'd neglected it for couple weeks. But know its looking pretty. The lavender is in full bloom and I have a few buds poking out everwhere.

I am feeling a little wimpy these days. I dropped one of my classes the human form class but I am sticking with the still life and digital photography. Just too busy to do 20-30 sketches a week. Besides after the limones painting ... I think I was confusing the human form class with still life class. So instead I will focus on photography and still lifes. A nice combination of classes that won't make the coming holidays unbearable. So no more booby posts until the spring. Here is a picture of an white orchid that I did while ago, it was actually white, but I digitally added the pretty fushia colors.

SANDIAFRIA.COM FRIDA #11 | CafePress

SANDIAFRIA.COM FRIDA #11 | CafePress Back by popular demand I am setting up Cafe press again. I've set up a new cafe press shop for each of my more recent paintings. Check it out! I love cafe press... it allows people to purchase items with my artwork and relieves me of the stress of having to do the actual printing and shipping, they do it all for me. Check it out! I think I am going to order a tile of each Frida and creating a FRIDA mosaic wall!

Still life numero 3, Limones. I think it's getting a little easier. I like how this one turned out although now that I look at it again the lemon on the far left looks like a "breastisist" nipple and all.

New painting this weekend is called, Madrecita. She looks so peaceful holding her little bebe.

The Frida bug strikes again!

Kiki says to Sarah "I like the holes in your face", Sarah answered, "they're pimples" .

A new Frida, #10 in series. I am up late tonight , I've been doing so much homework... I needed to do a painting in bright colors. So I decided to stay up and finish her. I love the colors. My sister in law just painted her kitchen this color. This one's dedicated to you Canaan and your cocina color de miel.

I had a marathon homework session last night as I had some suprise out of town guests for the weekend. Here is still life numero dos. A vase, mini pumpkin and an artichoke. I had problems with the vase, couldn't get the roundness of it right. I guess that is why these are called exercises. I need to work it a little more.

Big booty girl drawings for human form class.Exercise was to capture different gestures. I can't get use to vine charcoal. I've made such a mess. Had some hot cocoa and now I am wired! aaarggh but at least the homework is done. I had to redo the still life with the apple and cup too. Sarah decided she was going to fingerpaint with it.(4 yr olds and oil paints don't mix very well).

And here is another shot, we found some really cute scarecrows at Michaels the girl one even has curly hair looks like Erika and Timmy sharing a chair. The picture is a little fuzzy I"ll have to take another. Don't you just love twinkle lights!

It's not even the end of summer, but Erika and I were really in fall mood so we dug out our fall decorations and decorated our fireplace mantle I love twinkle lights and maple leaves just make me think Fall. It's so nice to go in there at night with only the twinkle lights on a some nice jazz music, fireplace cracklin... so relaxing.

The final exercise was a two subject still life apple and cup showing shadows and we could only use 4 colors. I think I got the shadows okay ... I'm not too sure about the cup?

I spent all of last night and this morning workin on homework for still life painting class at the Academy. This is the initial "painting sketch" the next photo is the final painting. So fun to watch a painting evolve. I had to force myself to use a limited color palette and they were all muted tones. Something I am not used to working with. I was tempted to paint the table a bright cobalt blue! and the cup a lemon yellow! I keep telling myself.. I am learning, learning is good. Be open minded.

This past week has been pretty hectic...trying to get into the swing of school again. The kids are also adjusting. This past weekend was a nice time spent with family, just hanging out a small bbq and cleaning house. With a heavy homework load this week and work and everything else. Having a slow weekend is always welcome. I painted some more as we watched the Sunday round of political commentary shows.. I painted another dress to go with the Mexican wedding dress series. I named it "... under the moon lit sky", since it follows the other painting "my dress hangs here..." which now by the way has a new home in Texas! These next few weeks will be slow as far are posts and new paintings since homework will take priority over "fun" painting. Well I shouldn't complain since painting still lifes is still much more fun than studying calculus or stats.

Artist Trading Cards

Image
I am so late with these, but I finally finished them and will be sending them off to CraftyChica Kathy Murillo for an ATC exchange she is facilitating through the GetCrafty forum. If you are an artist or just a creative person and would like to exchange cards. Send me an email! and we can do a card swap! These were so much fun to make I think I am hooked.
