I love the rain, but I miss the sun

Image
It's raining cats and dogs outside today and all I can think about as I type this is how wonderfully beautiful Spring will be after all of this winter rain. I love the rain but I miss the sun. Here is a new little painting of spring flowers. A happy little painting to brighten up any spot that needs a burst of color. I will be selling this along with a few of the others small works I've posted, in San Francisco at a holiday trunk show. Details to come soon so stay tuned.

Soldadera

Image
Soldadera, a new series ... now available in my Etsy shop .   8x10 inches on canvas panel. What is a Soldadera? Las Soldaderas were women "fighters" who made significant contributions to both the federal and rebel armies of the Mexican Revolution. Though few actually engaged in combat, their assistance to male soldiers in fighting the war were monumental. This website discusses in further detail the roles of Las Soldaderas; prominent female figures in the war; provides a historical context for the war effort; and discusses modern day ramifications of the efforts of Las Soldaderas.                                                         Involvement      When first looking at the role and function of the Soldaderas in the Mexican Revolution, it first must be established why these women chose to assist their respective militaries. For the federal army under President Victoriano Huerta, the male soldiers were forced to enlist and go fig

DIY playing with paper.. making flowers

Image
As an artist I often get bored with working in just one medium and when that happens I find myself looking for whatever I can use or get my hands on to create something. I'm actually sitting in my office with very limited supplies . Feeling a little frustrated and decided to cut paper. I recycled pages from on old romance novel, a coffee cup chip board wrapper and some prints of my artwork that I've had sitting around and not able to use. (I think the resolution was not high enough when I printed them.) However the colors are still vibrant enough to make flower petals. I basically cut out different sized petals from each paper source and glued to a circle. I embellished with a red pen on two of them. I think for most artist the satisfaction of creating something out of nothing is what often drives us to create. This was an easy enough little art project and I think I'll use them in my scrapbook when I get around to that. Otherwise they'll be in m

Amor

Image
If you judge people, you have no time to love them. - Mother Teresa                                                                                                     "Amor" cross is small 5x7 inches on canvas board. I painted it last night. Thinking of my husband Tim who is now deployed in Afghanistan since today is our 24th wedding anniversary I thought this would be fitting. I've missed painting and hope to paint some more during this time while he is away. I am keeping this blog mostly about my art and musings, however if you'd like to follow my other blog " Military Esposa " I write about what I'm doing while he's away and the various things that you face as a military wife.
