"Who are you today, Maria?"

Image
I've been wanting to post a little blurb on this for while but didn't want to jinx myself until it was finalized. McDougall Littell Publishing is publishing this painting alongside a short story by latina author Judith Ortiz Cofer . It will appear in a their Language Arts, 8th Grade Literature 2007 edition (expected sometime in the spring). The title of the story is "Who are you today, Maria?". I can't wait to see it and read the rest of the story! I've never met Judith Ortiz Cofer, but I've started reading her books and poetry. At some point I might even get the courage to email or call her. I am such a chicken when it comes to things like this. I feel like I can officially say and respond to that eternal question "Who are you today, Maria?"... Today I am a published artist! yippee! Thank you McDougall Littell and Judith for the opportunity.

Vejigantes painting still in the works.

"Vejigantes II" a new painting that I've been working on for quite some time now. It's coming along but still needs some work. Crazy use of colors I know, but I can't seem to get away from them. It will be going to a bed and breakfast in Puerto Rico called Wild Flowers Guest House. www.wildflowersguesthouse.com If you planning a visit to the isla check this place out it seems wonderful.

taking the long way has it's benefits

Image
Today instead driving up the 101 and fighting traffic to get to work. I decided to take the long way and drive 280. Then I thought okay why not take the really long way and go Canada Road. I'm glad I did. I happened upon a family of young dear grazing off of the side of the road and this really old mossy lichen covered oak tree. I sat in my car admiring God's creation and thankful that I was able to experience it today... even if only for a few minutes.

even dead roses are pretty....

Image
One of my little luxuries to myself is to always have fresh flowers in the house. Whether they be cut dandelions or lavender sprigs from the yard. Just something about having fresh flowers makes my soul feel good. I picked up these roses from safeway about two weeks ago (they carry some of the longest lasting roses). Better than most flower shops. Even now as their beauty fades away, they are still silky and brilliant in color. So pretty I painted them. A little different from the actual roses but I tried to capture their beauty, the various colors. (rose, lavender, soft yellow, green, brown, magenta, black, creme).

new affirmation artist cards

Image
Sometimes we need to remind ourselves to be positive. With that in mind I'm working on a series of artist cards with that theme. Both positive and spiritual affirmations. As crazy as our days are we often need little reminders to get us through the day.
