Please God just a little sprinkle please....

So here is the good news I received about a week or so ago and finally confirmed with the folks at La Raza Galeria Posada in Sacramento. I will be doing my very first, (primero)... solo exhibit this December. Will run from Nov 15 through the end of December! I am so excited and scared I don't even know how to feel right about now. If anyone has any advice on doing a solo show please email me. I am thrilled to do this and am thanking God every minute. I was starting to get bummed about not going to Florence for the Biennale, but He in his greatness opened another door!

This means I will need to move to larger canvases and do somewhere in the ballpark of 25-30 new pieces. What am I doing blogging? I better get to work! pronto! My prayer for the next few months..."Dear God...please , send blessings of creativity this way... just a little sprinkle please"

I was commissioned to do this special little painting of El Cipitio of El Salvador. It's my interpretation of a small postage stamp that El Salvador put out several years ago. "Who are you today, Maria?"

I've been wanting to post a little blurb on this for while but didn't want to jinx myself until it was finalized. McDougall Littell Publishing is publishing this painting alongside a short story by latina author Judith Ortiz Cofer . It will appear in a their Language Arts, 8th Grade Literature 2007 edition (expected sometime in the spring). The title of the story is "Who are you today, Maria?". I can't wait to see it and read the rest of the story! I've never met Judith Ortiz Cofer, but I've started reading her books and poetry. At some point I might even get the courage to email or call her. I am such a chicken when it comes to things like this. I feel like I can officially say and respond to that eternal question "Who are you today, Maria?"... Today I am a published artist! yippee! Thank you McDougall Littell and Judith for the opportunity.
