My very first Linocut and I am so excited. This is a new technique for me... it's the little things that make me happy :). She is a Day of the Dead, Catrina. Best part for me was pulling the lino off of the paper and seeing the result of the cuts. The soft lino is like slicing butter. I think I may be hooked. I'm planning to make some blank cards from these... keep an eye on out Etsy for them. They are 5x7 inches, I used acrylic paints, hand pulled them on colored art paper.
I would never think to put a hot pink rug in my living room but in this example... it works. I love the constrasts with the lime green and soft pinks. The colors really make this all white room come alive. I'm really loving the apple green lamp shade and puffy stool too...mmm yummy.
On days like today I wish I could soak in a bath tub like this one. I could see it now... bubbles, floating around the room, candles aromatically filling the air, soft music in the background...miles away from stress filled workplaces and screaming kids. I mean, who wouldn't want to wrap themselves in such beautiful color.... aaaaaah a girl can dream right?
Some people say I make silly art....well sometimes I do... one thing is for sure I do make silly kids. This is my offspring... silly aren't they? Erika, Timmy & Sarah Erika forever has a smile... always has... she used to wake up smiling as a baby. Timmy well he is simply Timmy and I can never get a normal picture from him...which pretty much defines him. I love everything not-normal about him. And Sarah well she is an "in your face" type of girl... we are still trying to teach her personal space rules. They are undeniably mine... I love them to death.
A new Frida painting similar to one I did last year, only she is not as big ... still a work in progress. I need to adjust her jawline (she looks like she has the mumps) and tweek her eyes still a bit more...I'm almost there with this one. She is part of a series for Friday's event in Oakland... a continuation of the Many Faces of Frida exhibit, part of Oakland's First Friday art walk.
